A TONE OF WATER
PIER VÄRTAN, FERRY TERMINAL, STOCKHOLM, 2016. Porcelain, acoustic plaster.
The artistic design extends along one side of a 70 meter long passenger walkway. On the opposite side there is a glazed wall facing the harbour area.
The design as a whole is based on associations around water, as is the colour scheme and the basic forms of the modules. The work is designed to be experienced close up as well as from a distance. The subtle transformation takes place when the colour of the wall changes from light to dark and then back to light in different stages – like a strong wave movement. Free standing ceramic modules are set up along the wall in varying poetic, graphic and playful combinations.
Shiny ceramic surfaces play against a matte background. Contrasts, nuances and shifting colours and brightness contribute to the rhythm and the light play in the design. When moving along the walkway the experience is heightened by the different angles of the modules creating a progressive visual change. This engenders dynamism and movement in an otherwise monotonous space.
