MOVEMENTS IN AIR AND WATER
RIMNERSBADET, UDDEVALLA, 2024. Vitroporcelain, ceramic tiles, glass.
The artistic design in the swimming hall consists of three parts – the first two are placed
at the entrance and the third utilizes a glass passage leading to an adjacent ball hall. The
circle with its clear and graphic shape, which can easily be associated with both water,
air, bubbles and balls, is a continuing and connecting theme.
The circles appear in different compositions and embodiments in the tiled entrance wall
and in the surfaces of the glass. The shiny and slightly concave porcelain circles by the
entrance are recessed into pale and matt wall tiles. This low-key three-dimensionality
gives added depth to composition and feeling. The laminated glass surfaces provide a
play with the transparent spatiality which could be thought of as being filled with both
water and air. The circles can give the illusion of both moving and floating freely in either
of these elements. The glass surfaces give rise to projections, reflections and fusions.
The circles are monochrome or transition from dark to light in different ways. Those in
dark grey-blue colour provide a clear graphic design whilst the frosted non-coloured
circles suggest air and lightness.
